Sport excitement builds at UsakosAreva, Engen sponsor festival The people of Usakos are ready to host a sport and music festival which begins today. SPORT REPORTER



The third edition of the annual Areva & Engen One Stop Usakos sport festival will be held this weekend.

The tournament, which is said to be growing from strength to strength, will see over 20 teams competing.

Hilifa Mbako of Areva Namibia said: “Sport, especially football, remains one of the vehicles that have moved many people out of the socio-economic challenges.

“It is against that background that Areva Namibia remains committed to assist communities for the betterment of their livelihoods.”

The Usakos town council is already contemplating how it can best associate itself with the event next year.

There are plans to hold a trade expo during the days leading up to the sport and entertainment festival.

Areva and Engen Namibia handed over cheques totalling N$60 000, while Certume Energy and Erongo RED donated N$10 000 each.

Sixteen teams participated in the first tournament in 2015, and last year the number grew to 26.

Last year’s soccer tournament was won by Speed Fire FC from Omaruru after defeating Coastal Lions on penalties at the final.

A music show will also take place at the event on Saturday.
