The official opposition party, the DTA, was dealt a heavy blow when several members announced their resignation, accusing the party’s leadership of making false promises and not serving the interests of its members.
Twelve DTA members gathered at the Okankete village near Ondangwa and dropped their membership cards in front of former DTA regional coordinator Lazarus Petrus, who himself abandoned the party earlier this year.
The mass resignations come at a time when political parties are preparing for next month’s regional and local authority elections.
