The hype and build-up to the world title unification fight attracted 122 276 MTC customers who took part in the competition which required customers to buy data bundles to enter. From the thousands who entered, Marie-Luise Brandhuber, Selma Kalombo, Duncan Likukela and Henriette Eysele were drawn as winners. Brandhuber said she had never won anything in her life before. Eysele said she enjoys watching boxing and will wear the national colours on fight night to support the Namibian boxer. She also said that at first when she received the call she thought it was a scam.
The data bundles ranged from 40 megabytes, which gave customers one entry in the competition, to 15 gigabytes, which gave customers 1 000 entries.
MTC executive Tim Ekandjo said the company would make the necessary arrangements for the winners to receive their visas and would also make sure their passports are in order. “We will help the winners to make sure that they are ready for the US. Indongo is one of our greatest exports and deserves all the support he can get,” he said.
Each of the prizes is worth N$55 000. The winners leave for the US on 16 August.
The fight will be broadcast live on NBC 1 and Sky Sport. Tickets to the fight went on sale on July 15. Those planning to travel to the US to watch the fight live can purchase tickets on www.ticketmaster.com. Prices range from N$372.54 to N$1703.04.
