The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry has warned farmers that the use of seal oil and seal carcass meal in livestock feed is strictly prohibited.
The acting permanent secretary in the ministry, Abraham Nehemia, said the farming community, farmers’ unions, animal feed processors, retailers as well as role players in the meat industry should be aware that the use of seal products in livestock feed is banned.
This follows an alleged incident which happened this year, where a farmer used these substances in his livestock feed.
