A historic house owned by the Witbooi family in Gibeon burnt down midday on Monday, destroying many photos, historical documents and memorabilia.
The house is more than 85 years old and was first occupied by the parents of liberation struggle icon and former deputy prime minister, the late Reverend Hendrik Witbooi.
Lucia Witbooi, Deputy Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, and member of the Witbooi family, said the loss of the house was met with great sorrow by the family and the community at large.
