Deputy Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare Lucia Witbooi has called for an intensive investigation into the selling of abortion drugs, saying prominent people might be involved.
This follows a string of reports of abortion drugs being sold since 2014. Last week, four women and a pharmacist were arrested for supplying pills that induce abortion.
“We as the ministry condemn abortion because it is illegal. A foetus is the beginning of a life,” said Witbooi.
