British billionaire Harvey Boulter is still being treated in a Windhoek hospital almost a month after he allegedly shot and killed his farm manager on Farm Kaross near Kamanjab.

Boulter (51) is facing a charge of murder after he allegedly shot 54-year-old Gerhard van Wyk at Kaross on 27 February. Boulter was shot in the hand during the scuffle that led to Van Wyk’s fatal injury.

Police said Boulter had insulted Van Wyk's daughter-in-law and threatened the family with a pistol. Van Wyk, trying to keep the peace, intervened and tried to remove the pistol.

Kunene Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu confirmed that Boulter was still in hospital under police guard.

He said Boulter was at first taken to the Mediclinic hospital in Windhoek, but was later transferred to the Auas Hills Private Hospital.

It is alleged that the altercation took place during a braai at the farm. A shot was fired, which hit Boulter in the hand and Van Wyk in the abdomen. Van Wyk died on the way to the hospital.

Boulter is expected to appear in court on 23 April. According to Kanyetu, Boulter has not yet applied for bail.

The farm

Boulter bought the 9 109-hectare farm from Tammy and Uwe Hoth in 2012. The farm was previously known as Kavita Lion Lodge.

He later also bought a neighbouring farm from them called Pionier.

The deed of transfer shows that two portions of Farm Kaross were bought by Boulter for more than N$19 million.

Twenty people are employed at the game farm, which generated US$2.60 million (N$37.5 million at the current exchange rate) from hunting and tourism in 2019.
