Tjongarero congratulates MotsepeTjongarero congratulates Motsepe LIMBA MUPETAMI

WINDHOEK

The Namibian minister of sport, Agnes Tjongarero, yesterday sent a congratulatory message to the newly elected president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), Patrice Motsepe.

Tjongarero said Namibia was certain that Motsepe would implement the vision he had outlined in his campaign.

She further said the African continent had high hopes he would provide the much-needed leadership to work cooperatively and constructively with fellow members of the executive committee.

“We are certain that, under your leadership, you will guide African football towards success,” Tjongarero said.

Motsepe, who becomes the seventh person to occupy the position, begins his four-year term after being elected unopposed by the member associations of Caf.

We want global

success

“I'm very excited. There is a great deal of urgency of getting things done. There is a going to be a lot of work and a lot of running. We have to make sure that African football is not just competitive but globally successful. Africa spends millions of dollars every year paying for TV rights of leagues outside Africa. There is a need to build our own products and we will succeed,” Motsepe told Caf.

He further said the face of African football would never be the same again and that 95% of conversations would be about football and the other 5% would discuss the importance of private-sector partnerships.

“We need to restore the pride, the dignity and the respect of Africa,” Motsepe said.
