‘Kapana’ – a film by the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) - has recorded another milestone by winning the prestigious best feature film at PRIDE Queer Film Festival in Perth, Australia.
The event is Perth’s only LGBTQI+ film festival, now in its fifth year. The festival ran from Wednesday, 3 to Tuesday, 9 March.
Actor Adriano Visagie, who plays the lead role, in the movie said: “We are truly humbled by this win. Our film was among amazing films from all over the world. We would like to extend our thanks to the jury and to the festival.
“Thank you to the festival and congratulations to the cast and crew. Taking Namibian film to the world.”
Earlier this year, Visagie won the Kim Renders Memorial Award for his outstanding performance in the film at the 2021 Reel Out Queer Film Festival.
Written by award-winning creatives Senga Brockerhoff and Mikiros Garoes, ‘Kapana’ is a Namibian love story.
