Poverty of children does not give anyone licence to exploit them for financial greed or sexual gratification.
Judge President Petrus Damaseb said this in the Windhoek High Court yesterday when he sentenced Johanna Lukas to 13 years’ imprisonment on several counts of human trafficking and rape.
She sold three girls between ages of 13 and 14 to a South African man, Marthinus Pretorius, who is still on the run. The transactions took place in Swakopmund’s Vineta area on four occasions between April and May 2012. The fugitive allegedly paid N$10 000 for the children.
