Our entertainment industry is so small that everyone knows each other, but one little problem we have is that journalists aren’t really doing justice to the industry. We have diverse talent out there, but not all of them are being given a platform to tell their story. Journalists are supposed to go out there and find good stories to cover in the industry and not wait to be invited or given a story to cover, or an event. As a seasoned journalist myself I always make it a point to engage everyone out there and do proper research before writing the story. Journalists contribute a huge part to the success of an artist by giving them that platform to tell their story. My advice to entertainment journalists is to get a database or create your own, of everyone in the industry, you guys might just be ones that might give someone a breakthrough to success by doing their story. Entertainment pages have become predictable these days as the same people are in them time and again. I am still to see a journalist that goes deep down to discover talent and here we mean real talent. Don’t wait for an invite to an event; try to attend different events on your own. As journalists you are creating your own brand and you would want people to talk and be associated with your brand. Be that journalist that breaks barriers and gives each and every person in the industry a chance, we won’t be able to give them all a chance, but we can surely try. And for artists, be newsworthy to cover, don’t let fame mess up your head...
