Dahlia claim bragging rightsDahlia claim bragging rightsDahlia FC are the kings of Khomasdal after claiming the inaugural edition of a community competition. Team wins first Khomasdal Community Cup Dahlia FC were crowned the winners of the inaugural Khomasdal Community Cup after beating OmKalo United 1-0 at the Dawid Bezuidenhout High School last Saturday.
Lewellyn Otto scored the only goal of the match, which was the conclusion of a fun day that included a 5km walk/run and several football games.
The attendance was especially pleasing, said Jeremy Zimmer, one of the organisers of the event.
“It was really good to see old friends playing and sharing jokes on and off the field and all matches were played in a good spirit,” he told Namibian Sun.
“The crowd attendance was the surprise package of the day as it was well attended,” he added.
The event served a dual purpose. In addition to bringing the community together funds were collected for three members of the Khomasdal community.
“We plan to hand over the money next week to Saul Waters, Mamietjie Engelbrecht and the family of the late Franklin April. We are just busy with arrangements for a suitable venue and date but will inform everyone where to attend the handover,” Zimmer said.
