Youthful Namibian team impresses in Zimbabwe A team of 24 young Namibians participated in a volleyball festival in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 30 August to 3 September.The group of 12 boys and 12 girls between the ages of 8 and 14 were sent there by the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) on invitation from the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).
The children form part of the Namibia African Dream Project (ADP) development centres in Katima Mulilo, Rundu, Ongwediva and Windhoek, and they were accompanied by six officials to Harare.
NVF vice-president Hillary Dux Imbuwa said the aim was for country directors, centre coaches and centre managers to share ideas and experiences with one another about the project.
“It also aimed to expose all ADP children to an international atmosphere where children had a chance to meet and socialise with participants from other countries,” he said.
Imbuwa said the ADP family also received training on life skills, HIV/Aids and team-building exercises.
Participants played mini-volleyball games.
Other countries present were Botswana and Mozambique.
“CAVB has promised to have such a festival annually, with member countries to host it on a rotational basis,” Imbuwa said.
ADP aims to identify talent and groom volleyball players for future African national teams.
