The Namibia National Teachers Union (Nantu) has given the government seven days to consult with Cabinet after teachers rejected a proposed 5% salary increase.
Nantu secretary-general Basilius Haingura yesterday said the government had requested 14 days to consult Cabinet on the matter, but the union rejected that.
“Inflation stands at 7% and we want 8%,” Haingura said.
Haingura said if the government response is not favourable, teachers will take the next step once a certificate of unresolved dispute is issued.
