Namibia’s flag-bearer at the Summer Olympics, boxer Jonas Junius, has been arrested on allegations of attempted rape of a housekeeper at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro.
The news of his arrest was confirmed by the Namibian delegation in Rio de Janeiro. There was, however, no immediate comment from the chief of mission, Jesse Schickerling, who was reportedly dealing with lawyers and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the boxer’s arrest.
Minister of Sport Jerry Ekandjo, who had just returned from Rio yesterday, refused to comment when approached for comment.
