Namibians have suffered hefty food price increases this past year that have been much higher than the current inflation rate of 6% and there does not appear to be much hope for relief in the short term.
The prices of beef and lamb are expected to increase significantly towards the end of the year if Namibia receives the good rains that are forecast based on a developing La Niña weather phenomenon.
The chief marketing officer of the Meat Board, Desmond Cloete, told Namibian Sun that good rains will mean that farmers will rebuild their herds after the devastating drought.
