Inquest into death of ‘shebeen baby’

The police have opened an inquest docket into the death of a newborn baby that died in a shebeen in an informal settlement at Katima Mulilo.
The investigation will determine whether a charge of birth concealment will be brought against the 22-year-old mother. She failed to report the birth of the baby girl that she delivered by herself inside the shebeen where she works as bartender.
The dead baby, which weighed 3.2kg, was found wrapped in plastic bags and old clothes.
The baby’s body was discovered under a bed in the woman’s bedroom on Wednesday afternoon.
