Plight of elderly must be addressed

Members of Parliament have bemoaned the ‘deplorable’ state of old-age homes and the level of care rendered to the elderly.
This follows a motion tabled by DTA parliamentarian Elma Dienda in the National Assembly this week calling for legislative and policy changes to change the way old-age homes are run.
She urged that the motion be referred to the Standing Committee on Gender Equality, Social Development and Family Affairs to explore alternative avenues for distributing pensions and minimising their misuse.
