If no new foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) cases are reported by the end of the year, Namibia could be declared FMD-free by next year January.
The Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Dr John Shoopala, told Namibian Sun yesterday that in the meantime, the FMD status quo remains.
According to Shoopala, the last confirmed case of the outbreak was reported in July in the Omusati Region. In terms of veterinary regulations, six months are needed from the date of the last confirmed case before a country can be declared FMD-free.
