Born on June 17, 1939 at Odibo village in the Ohangwena Region, Hidipo Hamutenya is a Namibian politician who played a major role during the liberation struggle. Hamutenya has a number of qualifications in the fields of Journalism, Political Science, History and Development Studies which he obtained at universities around the world. After Namibia’s independence in 1990, Hamutenya served as Minister of Information and Broadcasting until 1993, when he was appointed as Minister of Trade and Industry - a position he held for nine years before he became Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2002.
