Aviation experts say the ambulance plane V5-NRS that crashed in Cape Town on Sunday morning was flying too low for its position.
The aircraft was no longer in a holding pattern and was cleared for landing. It was, according to reports, roughly seven nautical miles, or 12 km from the airport.
“This is standard operating procedure for Cape Town,” one expert said. “One can be cleared for landing up to 20 nautical miles (37 km) from the airport.”
