Phosphate mining: Shifeta does U-turn The
Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, has made a dramatic
U-turn and announced that the environmental clearance certificate that was
issued to Namibian Phosphate Mining (NMP) should be withdrawn with immediate effect.
This follows after several fishing associations yesterday filed an urgent
application in the Windhoek High Court against the environmental clearance. An
appeal against phosphate mining was also submitted to the ministry. Read full story
