African artists to star in Covid-19 vaccine animation seriesSpreading awareness Pandemica is an animated series created to raise awareness of the critical importance of getting vaccinated. ALL AFRICA
Zimbabwe's Danai Gurira, Kenya's Fena and Nigeria's David Oyelowo and Teni are among the stars who have teamed up for a new online animated series for ONE Campaign, a global health and anti-poverty organisation co-founded by U2 singer and philanthropist Bono, to raise awareness on the critical importance of global vaccine access in ending the pandemic.
The episodes highlight vaccine inequities and run less than a minute in length, some in English and some in French.
The episodes will be released in several countries including Canada, the US, Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa, Senegal, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands.
"We're all trapped in Pandemica, but only some can get out. This virus thrives on inequality, and right now billions of people around the world are seeing the promise of a vaccine, but not the opportunity to receive it," said Oyelowo, actor and mountaineer in Pandemica.
Life-saving shot
Bono said Pandemica's world animates a simple truth – that where you live shouldn't determine whether you get these life-saving shots.
Gayle Smith, president and CEO of ONE, added: "This virus has waged war on the world, and we need to fight back with all we've got. Vaccine access isn't just about what's fair, it's also about what's smart – we can't end a global pandemic until we stop the virus from spreading and mutating everywhere".
