The Namibian police force (NamPol) in the Ohangwena Region on Tuesday handed over three vehicles stolen in Angola and recovered in Namibia.

The handing over ceremony, which took place in Oshikango, saw a Toyota Prado and two Kia Sportages - worth a combined N$1.5 million - returned to their legal owners. The vehicles were allegedly stolen from Chana Rent-A-Car in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

Chief inspector Lameka Haipinge handed over the vehicles to the car hire company’s representative, Francisco Adelio Marques, saying the vehicles were found at a private house at Omafo in Helao Nafidi town on 11 March, following a tip-off from a member of the public.

According to Haipinge, a 34-year-old Namibian woman, Johanna Moshana, has been arrested in connection with the theft.

“She appeared in court at Ohangwena on 15 March and the case is postponed to 20 May this year,” Haipinge said.

It is alleged Moshana is in a relationship with an Angolan man believed to be the main suspect in the theft of the vehicles.

Moshana was released on N$7 000 bail, while the Angolan suspect is yet to be traced.
