Rundu set to appoint new CEORundu set to appoint new CEO Kenya Kambowe

RUNDU

The Rundu town council is set to appoint a substantive accounting officer in the coming months after urban and rural development minister Erastus Utoni approved the recommended candidates as identified by an interview panel.

This was confirmed by mayor Gabriel Kanyanga, who yesterday told Namibian Sun that they received feedback from the line ministry regarding the CEO hunt.

The council has been without a CEO since Romanus Haironga’s contract expired in July 2018.

Namibian Sun early this month reported on a two-horse race for the top spot after the interview panel recommended that either Nathaneal Olavi or Christophorus Kudumo be considered to lead the cash-strapped local authority.

Kanyanga said because Olavi, who is currently employed as the finance and asset management manager at Karibib town council, scored the highest, a contract is being drafted which he will have to respond to.

“We did not yet appoint him [Olavi], we are finalising the document today so that we can hand it to him,” he said.

If Olavi turns down the offer, Kudumo will then be approached for the position.

Number of challenges

Kanyanga stressed that appointing a CEO is of significant importance, seeing as the local authority has been faced with a number of challenges.

Rundu does not have a good record as far as harmony between the office of the CEO and the elected council office-bearers is concerned, with infighting and squabbles being common in the past, resulting in poor or no service delivery to the electorate.

Apart from being known for failing to deliver services, the local authority owes over N$100 million to water utility, NamWater.
