Women’s Bounce Back Cup is on NAMPA

The town of Keetmanshoop will host the Women’s Bounce Back Cup this weekend, which will see nine women’s football teams from across the ||Karas Region participate.

The tournament will take place at the Westdene Stadium on Saturday and Sunday and will see teams from Karasburg, Noordoewer, Lüderitz, Aroab, Koës, Tses, Bethanie and Keetmanshoop compete.

One of the organisers of the tournament, Emrico Blaauw, told Nampa sday the tournament aims to revive women’s football in the region, since the last time such an event took place was seven years ago.

“We want to revive women’s football and tell young women that there is a career in women’s football and that the sport is important. The ‘bounce back’ theme is also for football bouncing back in this Covid-19 era,” Blaauw said.

He said all Covid-19 health protocols would be followed and only a limited number of spectators would be allowed.

The top goal scorer will walk away with a new pair of football boots, while the winning team will receive a trophy and gold medals.
