WINDHOEK

Namibia Post and Telecommunications Holdings (NPTH) and the Roads Contractor Company (RCC) have been encouraged to come up with a payment plan to ensure the RCC is not left homeless.

Staff members of the RCC were locked of the building it used to own earlier this month by NPTH after racking up a rental bill of over N$6 million.

Public enterprises minister Leon Jooste told Namibian Sun the two entities were urged to find a solution.

“I met with NPTH and requested that they engage one another to agree on a payment plan,” he said.

Meanwhile, NPTH CEO Kristofin Itembu refused to comment, saying that the matter was before the court.

The RCC head office, used as collateral for a loan the company took from Bank Windhoek, was attached by the bank in 2018, but NPTH stepped in, paying N$190 million to rescue the property and prevent it from being repossessed.

The building was then rented back to RCC, which has allegedly not made a single payment in this regard.

Numerous requests for the company to pay fell on deaf ears, this newspaper was informed earlier this month.

Namibian Sun previously reported that the company’s employees had at one stage been paid from government’s contingency fund meant for emergencies.
