WINDHOEK

The police confiscated 110 pangolin scales when they arrested two men at Outapi on 7 March.

The two Namibians, Nikodemus Kotekeni Hafeni Nicodemus and Simon Akwenye, were also found in the possession of one pangolin skin.

In another incident, a Namibian was arrested on 6 March for being in the possession of four elephant tusks at Mukwe. Phillipus Kutenda Thikuma was charged with illegal possession of and dealing in controlled wildlife products.

Eleven other suspects were arrested on the same charges last week.

In Katutura, Mendley Job and Godlieb Amalenga, both Namibians, were arrested with two pangolin skins.

In another case at Mukwe, Mathues Ngunda was arrested on 10 March with one live pangolin.

More arrests

Two Namibians, Patrick Mpande Haingura and Andreas Mushongo, were arrested at Tsumeb on 11 March for being in possession of two pangolin skins.

At Kamanjab, four Namibians were arrested on 13 March and one giraffe carcase and a hunting rifle were confiscated. The suspects are Karel Gaingob, Jonas Aebeb, Seth Aebeb and Isascar Gaingob.

They were charged with illegal hunting of specially protected game and illegal possession of controlled wildlife products.

On 14 March, two Angolan nationals were arrested with two elephant tusks at Onandjamba. Abraham Mwetupunga and Velema Nghitila were charged with illegal possession of and dealing in controlled wildlife products.
