Three co-opted members have been appointed to Meatco's board of ­directors.

They are Shiwana Ndeunyema, Fanuel Tjivau and Kishi Shakumu. Their term is from 1 March 2021 until 28 February 2022. According to Meatco, the three members come with a wealth of experience in human resources and organisational development, law, corporate governance and accountancy.

Tjivau is a chartered accounted and former CEO of Total Namibia; Ndeunyema is currently the executive business strategy manager at Namcor and a renowned organisational development consultant, while Shakumu is a seasoned lawyer at Kishi Shakumu & Co as well as a former co-opted Meatco board member, having served from 2017 to 2020.

The three will not have voting rights. “According to Section 15 of the Meat Corporation of Namibia Act, Act 1 of 2001, the board may at any time co-opt not more than three persons, who in its opinion have appropriate knowledge and experience, to serve in an advisory capacity on the board for such a period as it may determine,” Meatco said. Meatco added that it is mandated to serve, promote and coordinate the interests of livestock producers in Namibia, and strive for the stabilisation of the meat industry in the national interest. “The corporation is also mandated to market products within Namibia or elsewhere to the best advantage of the producers of livestock in Namibia, among others.” Meatco aspires to be a world-class meat brand that is creating sustainable wealth for all Namibians. “In this endeavour, we strive to build a dynamic commercial public enterprise that is competitive, profitable and sustainable in order to survive the global business environment that is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous,” the company­ said. The other members are Johnnie Hamman (chairperson), Clara Bohitile (vice chairperson), Kay-Dieter Rumpf, Mesag Mulunga, Cloretha­ Garises, Helena Mavetera, Adolf Muremi and Maria Kabuku.
