Transport inflation in first gear![]()
Annual overall transport in February moved out of deflationary territory for the first time in four months, registering 0.2%. However, it remained well below the 4.4% of a year ago. Overall transport inflation consists of the following sub-categories: purchase of vehicles, operation of personal transport equipment and public transportation services. February’s rate for purchase of vehicles was 8.1% compared to 3.8% a year ago. Operation of personal transport equipment, which includes fuel costs, remained in deflation for the 11th consecutive month, but moved up from -4.7% in January to -3% following fuel price hikes. Public transportation services recorded a rate of 0.4% compared to zero a year ago. Data released yesterday by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) shows annual overall inflation in Namibia last month was 2.7%, the same as January, but up from the 2.5% recorded in February 2020.
