A partnership with the Young Africa Trust, the 20-week programme includes basic training in welding, basic life skills, decision-making and leadership competencies.
To date, Kraatz human resources manager Roberto January said 15 Namibians have been certified through the programme.
Kraatz''s decision to team up with the Young Africa Trust, he said, has taught students how to use the skills learned there in their day-to-day activities and endeavours.
“We have appointed one student from the second intake, who is doing very well in his current role. Other students have taken what they have learned back to assist in family businesses,” January said.
Basic requirements for the Kraatz Welding School include a grade 12 certificate with good results in mathematics and physical science. Would-be students must be between the ages of 19 and 25.
