WINDHOEK
A man from Khorixas, who was reported to have died on New Year's Day, is still alive and in a stable condition in hospital.
A police report stated that Arnold Eiseb (38) had died after falling on two empty beer bottles on 1 January.
The police at Khorixas suspect foul play and are investigating a case of attempted murder.
Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi has ascribed the confusion to an error made by the police’s communications office.
“It is a typing error. It was supposed to be attempted murder and not murder as reported and I would like to apologise for that,” Shikwambi said yesterday.
When contacted for comment, the acting station commander at Khorixas, Inspector Paul Gaoseb, said no arrest has been made.
“The investigating officers are waiting for the victim to be released from hospital. We have opened a docket for attempted murder in this case,” he said.
