RUNDU
Nineteen babies were born in the Rundu Intermediate Hospital in the Kavango East Region on 1 January.
Registered nurse Hertha Sikwaya told Nampa on Saturday that 10 boys and nine girls were born at the hospital on the first day of the year.
Two of the babies – one boy and one girl - were delivered via caesarean section, while the rest were natural deliveries.
The first baby to be born was a boy, delivered at 00h28.
His mother, 26-year-old Johanna Ndara, said she was happy to have delivered her baby safely and is excited that he was the first baby to be born at the hospital in 2021.
No babies were born in the Rundu Private Hospital on New Year’s Day.
