Praying for our leaders in time of Covid-19Praying for our leaders in time of Covid-19 Romans 13:1 reads: “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

Covid-19 has reared its ugly head within the echelons of our country. Yesterday, Vice-President Nangolo Mbumba told Namibian Sun that he and his wife Susitjie had tested positive for the virus.

Secretary to Cabinet George Simataa was the first from the top hierarchy to come out publicly a fortnight ago to state he had tested positive for the devastating virus.

Days later, it emerged that Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and international relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah were in isolation due to fears of Covid-19. They didn't test positive at the time, but their status is currently unknown.

The above-mentioned leaders constitute, at least on paper, the heartbeat of our government.

They are elected leaders of our government with a huge mandate on their shoulders. When they are grounded, it means their ability to perform is compromised and the effect of that would be felt by the common man.

It is therefore in the best interest of our country when national leaders are safe from Covid-19 and other ailments, so that they may safely steer us out of the stormy waters.

All lives matter. Every life lost is one too many. But the liabilities that come with each death affect the nation differently.
