The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has paid all second division leagues in the country for the 2018/19 season.
An amount of N$2.3 million was disbursed among the 14 regional leagues affiliated to the NFA as outstanding fees owed to them by the football body.
In an interview recently, acting secretary-general of the NFA, Franco Cosmos, explained that the newly-elected leadership of the association is in the process of paying off long-standing debts, adding that all second division leagues were paid at the beginning of the month to pay teams and other expenses.
“We have cleared NFA's long-standing remunerations and it's not just the second division that got rewarded, the first division streams were also remunerated,” said Cosmos.
Leagues compensated
Kunene football league vice-chairperson Bolla Nangombe confirmed that their league was compensated, and that they have started with the process of paying clubs that took part during the 2018/19 season.
This with the exception of Revengers Football Club, which was dismissed from the league.
“Our office is now busy with uploading of clubs' information and club management have started forwarding their banking details and we hope to pay all teams by the end of this month,” he said.
The Kunene league received N$164 000.
Outjo Football Academy had already received their payment of N$35 000 for winning the league.
The Kavango West regional second division league chairperson, Earnest Joy, also confirmed that they received their funds and have settled all their debts.
