ONDANGWA

The Chinese business community at Ondangwa has donated food parcels to senior citizens of Ondangwa, especially those hit hard by the impact of Covid-19.

The donation is valued at N$40 000.

The parcels, consisting of sugar, pasta, maize meal and cooking oil, will be distributed by the Ondangwa town council.

The donation was handed over to the town council yesterday and regional governor Elia Irimari was also present.

The deputy chairperson of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Namibia, Jiang Bo, led the delegation.

Solidarity

Bo said the donation showed their solidarity in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“All of the Chinese from Ondangwa voluntarily contributed to this donation. We have prepared 150 food parcels consisting of cooking oil, sugar, macaroni and maize meal,” Bo said.

“This is a small donation, but we believe it is an indication of our sincere appreciation for all your help toward our businesses. As you all know, our normal life and all business activities are now being affected by this unprecedented epidemic.”

Receiving the donation, Irimari appreciated the gesture by the Chinese, which was the second of its kind following another food donation by local businessman Johaness Shihepo of Onambango Store last month.

“It’s good to learn that people who just came to do business showing that they have our community at heart by ploughing back into the community with a donation aimed to our elderly people. This donation came at a right time and I have to commend them for this,” Irimari said.

The Ondangwa town council, through its community leaders, will identify the beneficiaries.
