WINDHOEK

For the first time in many years, there were no road fatalities this Easter weekend, undoubtedly because of travel restrictions under the coronavirus state of emergency.

Only four accidents were reported on Namibian roads this past weekend, in which five people were injured.

This in comparison to last year when eight people died in 42 accidents, with 93 people injured.

In 2018, four people died and 84 were injured in 54 accidents.

This is according to statics compiled by the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund and the Namibian police.

According to the statistics provided for the Easter period from 2016 to 2019, on average crashes declined by 37%, injuries declined by 30% and fatalities increased by 4%.

The crashes reported this past weekend happened in the Khomas Region (two), Hardap (one) and Oshikoto (one).

Last year most crashes were reported in Khomas (11), followed by Erongo (five) and Hardap (four).
