Teachers vote in Oshakati 0
Hundreds of teachers gathered at the Oshakati education circuit office yesterday to vote for or against a planned national strike.
The strike ballot started in Windhoek last Tuesday.
The planned strike is the result of a salary dispute between the government and the Namibia National Teachers Union (Nantu).
Teachers are demanding an eight percent increase while the government offered five percent.
Teachers voting in Oshakati yesterday complained about queuing in the heat.
“At least they could have made provision for chairs. We cannot queue for hours like this in the sun,” one teacher remarked.
Another teacher said she couldn’t wait in line for hours and would rather return today.
There are six mobile and fixed polling stations in the Oshana Region. The strike ballot in that region ends today.
