Namibia pledges fish to Cyclone Idai victims![]()
President Hage Geingob has pledged quantities of fish in humanitarian aid to people affected by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. In a statement, Geingob also extended sympathies to families and friends of those who lost their loved ones during Cyclone Idai and related floods. “The Namibian government will provide quantities of fish as part of the relief contribution, and I call on the public and the business community to offer assistance to our brothers and sisters who are affected by this unbearable natural disaster,” said Geingob. Cyclone Idai tore into the centre of Mozambique on the night of 14 March, before barrelling on towards neighbouring Zimbabwe, bringing flash floods and ferocious winds, and washing away roads and houses. “I appeal to member states in SADC to stand in solidarity with the people of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, and see how our sister countries can be assisted,” said Geingob.
