Media role in gender issues is vital

Although Namibia has made good progress in the area of gender equality, the country has been warned not to be complacent.
The United Nations (UN) resident coordinator in Namibia, Kiki Gbeho made this remark at the fifth Gender and Media Summit in Windhoek yesterday.
Highlighting Namibia’s achievements that include being ranked fifth in Africa in gender parity in parliament, having a national gender policy, national gender and GBV plans of action and gender responsive budgeting guidelines, Gbeho however said there are areas that still need improvement.
