Allegations of bribery have been levelled against a junior headman who reportedly entered into an agreement by allocating 15 hectares of land at his village for sand mining without the consent of a senior headman.
Onamutayi district senior headman Amon Shipanga has blocked an attempt by Groot Silica Mining to excavate sand at Okahenge, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority.
Shipanga reportedly accused the village headman, Thomas Shinyengu, of having received bribes from the mining firm in order to carry out operations at Okahenge.
