More than 100 years after the massacre of thousands of OvaHerero and Nama people by imperial German troops, Germany has finally acknowledged that it was a genocide.
This follows last week’s centenary of the end of German colonial rule of Namibia.
According to international media, Germany is set to officially recognise the 1904-1908 genocide.
A Namibian delegation led by OvaHerero Paramount Chief Vekuii Rukoro and the chairperson of the Nama Genocide Technical Committee, Ida Hoffman, visited Germany last week for talks on the genocide. Read more about Germany finally recognises Namibian genocide
