While the country was celebrating its 26th independence anniversary last weekend, six people died in car crashes and 68 were injured.
On the same weekend last year, 43 accidents were reported and 61 people were injured.
The National Road Safety Council’s Ambrosius Tierspoor said as part of the Independence and Easter road-safety campaign, the police, traffic police, transport inspectors and local authorities are working together to screen drivers and vehicles.
