A lack of access to functioning lucrative markets in the northern communal areas (NCA) has crippled rural households in the northern regions.
This is according to the president of the Namibia National Farmers’ Union (NNFU), Tobias Emvula, who called on Meatco to continue its operations at Oshakati and Katima Mulilo.
Meatco recently announced its intention to stop running the state-owned abattoirs at Oshakati and Katima Mulilo because of high operational costs that saw the company spending about N$43 million during the 2014/15 financial year.
