Residents of Omusati have called on the government to come up with an alternative that does not include removing the Calueque-Oshakati canal, which is the main water source for hundreds of communal farmers living along the 150-kilometre concrete-lined canal.
During a consultative meeting on Monday between traditional, church, and regional leaders, as well as local government, farmers and community members in the Omusati Region, participants were in agreement that unless the government found another solution, thousands stood to lose.
