Namibia’s central bank this morning announced its raising of the country’s prime lending rate by 25 basis points, to 7%. Bank of Namibia (Bon) Governor Iipumbu Shiimi said the decision was necessary to prevent capital outflows which could put pressure on the country’s international reserves.

“With this increase in the Repo rate, it is expected that deposit-taking institutions will also raise deposit rates by the same margin, thereby encouraging savings,” Shiimi said. Read more about Another repo rate hike

The police in the Ohangwena Region are implementing stricter measures to curb illegal border crossings, which is a common occurrence and can be used for cross-border criminal activities.
The international border between Namibia and Angola is a mere gravel road with no fence separating the two countries and border residents frequently cross it to visit relatives, seek medical care or to take their livestock to a better grazing area.

The final report on the Mozambican plane crash in Namibia’s Bwabwata National Park has confirmed that the captain had manually crashed the aircraft when he was left alone in the cockpit.
The crash on 29 November 2013 killed all 33 people on board.

I remember being in a taxi one day and two young girls in the same taxi were having a really… interesting conversation. Then one of them said, “Etse have you seen the way she even walks like she owns the universe or something”” The other one, in an annoyed tone replied, “Choma why are you even going so far. Just the way her nose is so big. I’m scared one day she will finish the oxygen in this world and we will all just die. Read more about Slay 'em with kindness

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique admitted his side are suffering a slump in form after a third defeat in four games saw them dumped out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid.
Antoine Griezmann struck twice for Atletico in a 2-0 win on Wednesday to seal their passage to the last four at Barcelona's expense for the second time in three years, 3-2 on aggregate.
"It is clear that we are not in our best form, especially if you consider how we were playing before, but we need to lift ourselves," said Enrique, whose side's dreams of a treble were dashed.
