Namibia’s ambassador to Germany, Andreas Guibeb, has come under fire for reportedly trying to influence the German Bundestag not to debate the genocide committed a century ago against Namibian communities by the erstwhile Imperial Germany.
The German parliament is scheduled to debate a motion, tabled by that country’s leftists, which seeks to force the German authorities to formally apologise to the Namibian people for the 1904 genocide, and to allow its members to start a dialogue with Namibians.

This week some Okahandja residents reported water issues and said availability was scarce, but by yesterday no official notice to inform residents of the situation had gone out.

While receiving positive reviews, President Hage Geingob has also been critisised for certain decisions that he took during his first year as head of state.
Among his achievements was introducing performance agreements for ministers and preventing an uprising over land, while commentators said a lack of specific interventions was one of his downfalls.
Geingob took over the presidency from former President Hifikepunye Pohamba at a time analysts describe as critical, “because the people are demanding economic prosperity”.

Potholed streets in Oshakati that were patched up last month have again developed large potholes following recent rains.
The potholes, particularly in Kwame Nkrumah Street, have turned driving into a nightmare and forced drivers to drive on the verge. Road users, especially taxi drivers, blame the municipality for neglecting the streets. The latest repairs did not last three months, they say.
One resident, Joseph Kanime, said the poor condition of the streets results in high vehicle maintenance costs.
