Learners at the Auun Community Primary school near Grootfontein, mostly from the marginalised San community, sleep in shacks and tents while others find space under a tree.
Not only does this aggravate the notion that the government is neglecting San communities, but it also points to why learners from these communities find it difficult to escape from the spiral of poverty.
According to a teacher at the school, Desiree Katjindee, there are no beds and children are forced to share mattresses, most of which were donated.

Exorbitant house prices and insane rental costs mean that many Namibians remain children forever – sharing a house with their parents because they can’t afford to live anywhere else despite earning decent salaries.
For many who have moved into their parents’ backyard flats with their spouses and children, there seems to be no hope of owning their own homes.
Eduardo Platt, an accountant, is just one of the many young professionals who are renting a place that will never be his.

Dramatic video footage of armed clashes in Abidjan and bloodied corpses lined up on the streets opened the second day Friday of the landmark trial of former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo.
The prosecution accuses Gbagbo, 70, and his former youth militia leader Charles Ble Goude, 44, of orchestrating a plan to ensure the west African strongman remained in power despite being narrowly defeated by his bitter rival Alassane Ouattara in November 2010 elections.

The 2017 World Archery Games will see Namibians compete at the event, following their qualification after the just-ended Africa Archery Championship in Windhoek.
The Archery Association of Namibia’s Frank Bockmühl told Sport Wrap that the country still had to work on the Recurve division where archers were able to qualify for the Olympic Games.
“The archer we had in that division is a junior and was maybe too young to compete against the older ones but it is just a matter of development that we will soon speak the same language,” he said.

Swapo will need to reflect on how it disciplines and expels its members while the party is headed down a path that will reveal more cracks and divisions within its structures.
The party will also sit with a big task of reconciling its members, particularly closing the generation gaps that are perceived to exist between the elders and the youth cadres.
These are expert opinions regarding the court case in which four youth politicians are legally challenging their expulsion from the rank and file of the ruling party. The case is set to be heard on Thursday in the High Court. Read more about Tough day in court for Swapo
