Conradie corruption case postponed again

The corruption case involving Windhoek lawyer Dirk Conradie and his co-accused Sara Damases has been postponed yet again.
The matter was to be heard yesterday but will only continue on December 1 before Acting Judge Thomas Masuku.
State Advocate Ed Marondedze asked for the postponement to study one of the accused’s special pleas in a bid to properly prepare his case.

INQUIRING MINDS: Namibia Media Holdings hosted a Media Camp for around 50 high school learners from various schools in Windhoek. The event, which was held at Midgard Country Estate, brought various experts together. The learners were taught about media ethics, gender-sensitive reporting, the relevance of news, the importance of social media and the evolution of media in the digital age. Sessions were fun and informative and the participants were also given the opportunity to prepare the presentation of their own breaking news story for television, radio and print media. The Deputy Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Christine //Hoebes, has called on women to humble themselves before their husbands and refrain from enforcing “new ideas” without consulting them. //Hoebes was responding to a question from delegates during the Women’s Summit held last week, who wanted to know how women can gain the support of their husbands in pursuit of gender equality. The question and answer session followed //Hoebes’ delivery of Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila’s speech.

Ondonga accuses Oukwanyama of making death threats

The king of the Ondonga tribe Immanuel Kauluma Elifas and his council claim that their Oukwanyama counterparts have threatened some Ondonga leaders with death because of the on-going border dispute between the two tribes.
The Ondonga leadership made the accusations at a media briefing held at the Ondonga palace at Onamungundo village in the Oshikoto Region last week. The Ondonga Traditional Authority’s secretary, Joseph Simaneka Asino, read King Elifas’s media statement, in which the accusations were made.

Bayern are still title-hungry, says Mueller

Germany forward Thomas Mueller says Bayern Munich proved they still have the hunger to win a historic fourth successive Bundesliga title after their emphatic start to the season.
The 25-year-old Mueller netted twice in Bayern’s 5-0 rout of Hamburg on Friday night when Pep Guardiola’s Bavarian giants kicked off the new campaign in impressive style.
Having won the league the last three years, Bayern are bidding to become the first team to win the Bundesliga four times in a row.

Nambinga calls for discipline in RDP

Following a period of controversy and infighting within the party, the president of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), Jeremiah Nambinga, has called on his party cadres to remain united and disciplined.
Nambinga was speaking at the opening of the party’s extraordinary Central Committee (CC) meeting which discussed its participation in the November regional and local authority elections.

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba is celebrating his 80th birthday without fanfare or fuss at his home village of Okanghudi in the Ohangwena Region today.
Wishing her father a happy birthday, Pohamba’s daughter, Kaleinasho Pohamba-Ndume, said he is a normal father like any other and has always taught them to respect themselves and others.
“If there is one word I can use to describe my father then it is humble. He is a man of few words but trust me he will make sure you get the point very fast.

Ambulance plane was too low

Aviation experts say the ambulance plane V5-NRS that crashed in Cape Town on Sunday morning was flying too low for its position.
The aircraft was no longer in a holding pattern and was cleared for landing. It was, according to reports, roughly seven nautical miles, or 12 km from the airport.
“This is standard operating procedure for Cape Town,” one expert said. “One can be cleared for landing up to 20 nautical miles (37 km) from the airport.”

No way to identify Ndatipo shooter

The inquest into the death of Frieda Ndatipo held in the Windhoek High Court yesterday found that she was killed by a single gunshot fired from an unknown firearm.
Judge Christie Liebenberg said the person responsible for Ndatipo’s death could not be identified based on the evidence submitted during the inquest. He said her death was brought about by an unlawful act committed by an unknown person.

Jordan Spieth failed to add a third major title to his 2015 resume on Sunday, but with his runner-up finish to Jason Day at Whistling Straits, the 22-year-old claimed another coveted honour: the world number one ranking.
Spieth, the Masters and US Open winner, was touted as the player headed for history at the 97th PGA Championship, where he had a chance to join legendary Ben Hogan and superstar Tiger Woods as the only men to win three majors in a year.

Burglary suspect escapes from hospital

The same shebeen employee who helped foil a burglary at the Mosaka Bar in the Evululuko informal settlement of Oshakati on Friday morning was once again the first to know that one of the three suspects who had been arrested that day had escaped from police custody.
Anna Mateus went to buy electricity at the Oneshila Service Station on Saturday afternoon and on her way back, the taxi she travelled in picked up a man at Checkers in the Oneshila
location.

Go-slow at Skorpion Zinc continues

Employees of the Skorpion Zinc mine near Rosh Pinah plan to stage a peaceful demonstration at the mine today after their employer allegedly threatened to deduct money from their salaries this month.
The demonstration will take place at 16:00, just before the mine’s evening shift starts, and is aimed at lobbying other miners at Rosh Pinah.
The industrial action is in its fourth week despite continued efforts by management to find a solution to the labour dispute.
