Wenger, Mourinho driven by hatred of losing - Cech

Wenger, Mourinho driven by hatred of losing - CechWenger, Mourinho driven by hatred of losing - Cech Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho have often clashed off the field but Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech believes the pair share a common trait - a hatred of defeat - as motivation for success.

Wenger and Mourinho have had a fierce rivalry since the Portuguese boss moved to England in 2004 and, in the latest exchange of blows between the managers, a book earlier this year claimed that Mourinho wanted to “break the Frenchman''s face”.

“They are different but there is one thing they have in common and that is, they don''t like defeats,” the 34-year-old Cech said at a recent Guinness World Records promotional event.

Cech, who spent much of his career under Mourinho at Chelsea before joining Wenger''s Arsenal in 2015, also believes that the desire to avoid defeat has kept the pair at the top of the game for so long.

“And I think this is the driving force behind the success of both of them. Because you cannot last for such a long time if you don''t have the commitment and the hunger and if you are not doing everything to avoid defeat,” Cech added.

Third-placed Arsenal host struggling Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday, while sixth-placed United travel to take on fourth-placed Liverpool at Anfield on Monday.

The rise and fall of Tyson FuryThe rise and fall of Tyson Fury Boxer vacates heavyweight titles The British boxer''s reign in the heavyweight division has been short but not without drama. Timeline of the most notable and notorious moments in the controversial career of Tyson Fury, who announced late on Wednesday that he is relinquishing his world heavyweight titles:

-Becomes the world heavyweight champion inflicting first defeat on Wladimir Klitschko for 11 years to secure the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) belts.

-Just days after winning the titles he sparks controversy. “I believe a woman''s best place is in the kitchen and on her back, that''s my personal belief,” he says in a video posted on YouTube.

-IBF strip Fury of their belt for failing to agree a fight with mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov.

-British police in Manchester say they are investigating Fury after he makes outlandish comments on a video likening homosexuality to paedophilia.

-Told to stay away from a prestigious British annual sporting awards ceremony by the Sports Journalists'' Association who blast his views as “repugnant”.

-Gives a ham-fisted apology at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony, claiming his previous comments were “tongue in cheek” and “fun and games”.

-Sparks fresh controversy with a new foul-mouthed video rant in which he suggests rape and bestiality will one day be legalised. He also launches an anti-Semitic tirade on same 57-minute video filmed at a training camp.

-Says sorry for latest video, insisting “I am in no way a racist or bigot” and “I apologise to anyone who may have taken offence”.

-Postpones rematch with Klitschko scheduled for July 9, citing an ankle injury sustained in training.

-Denies claims made in a UK Sunday newspaper that he had failed a doping test in 2015.

-Denies taking performance-enhancing drugs and says he will sue UK Anti-Doping (UKAD).

-Charged by UKAD for failing test for a prohibited substance. UKAD reveal that Fury had been provisionally suspended in June, but the ban was not made public at the time.

-Rescheduled rematch with Klitschko confirmed for October 29.

-Fury fails to turn up at press conference to promote Klitschko fight saying his car had broken down.

-Postpones rematch for a second time saying he is “medically unfit”.

-Trainer and uncle Peter Fury says boxer is “at an all-time low” and is “seeking help” for depression.

-Media reports say Fury tested positive for cocaine and faces being stripped of his titles.

-Appears to retire from boxing, tweeting: “I''m the greatest, and I''m also retired.” He made a U-turn three hours later and tweeted “I''m here to stay”.

-Admits to taking cocaine in interview published in Rolling Stone magazine, saying “I hope someone kills me before I kill myself”.

-British Boxing Board of Control meets to consider revoking Fury''s licence to fight after drug-taking revelations.

-Fury announces he is vacating WBA and WBO titles “with immediate effect” to concentrate on his “medical treatment and recovery”.

Marquez gets first shot at title in Japan

Marquez gets first shot at title in JapanMarquez gets first shot at title in Japan Honda''s Marc Marquez gets his first chance to seal this year''s MotoGP world championship on Sunday in Japan.

The two-time world champion from Spain has built a 52-point gap over his closest rival Valentino Rossi, and would claim the season trophy if he wins and if the Italian legend finishes 15th or lower on his Yamaha and his third-placed teammate Jorge Lorenzo is fourth or worse.

But Marquez has never won at the Motegi circuit, known for its hard braking and acceleration.

With 100 points still up for grabs, the championship race could extend to one of the other legs in the

Asian “triple-header” - Australia and Malaysia.

There have been eight different grand prix winners in an unpredictable season so far and the championship could still go to the wire at the season finale back on Marquez''s home soil in Valencia, Spain.

Marquez will be buoyed by memories of his 2014 second place at Motegi which locked out his first MotoGP championship and is looking to go one better this year.

“The triple-header always marks a demanding period in the season because there are three races in a row in different time zones and different conditions, so we must handle them calmly and with the same mind-set we have kept throughout this season,” Marquez said.

After Motegi, riders will travel to Phillip Island and Sepang and Yamaha''s Rossi is hungry for more wins to close the gap, following four straight podium finishes.

“I''m especially happy to go to Japan because it is the home of Yamaha and I will do my best to make it a good Grand Prix,” said the nine-time world champion.

Reigning champion Lorenzo wants to overcome the 14-point deficit to his Yamaha teammate before he ends his successful nine seasons with the Japanese manufacturer and switches to Ducati next year.

“For the points, I think we have much more chance to finish trying to fight for the second place than winning the championship,” Lorenzo said.

The president of the Basketball Association of Baden-Wuerttemberg (BBW), Joachim Spägele, has been assigned as a basketball commissioner to Namibia to engage NBF and other stakeholders in basketball development affairs.

Spägele touched down in Namibia on July 25 and is expected to leave tomorrow. Among other things, he will discuss the way forward with the NBF.

He will also be paying a courtesy visit to the Sports Commission and the Directorate of Sport to discuss cooperation to develop the game of basketball in Namibia.

Speaking to Nampa last Thursday, NBF president Andrew Masongo said Spägele’s visit would mean a lot to Namibian basketball, as they expected to learn a lot from him during his three-day visit.

“We had a memorandum of understanding with the German Basketball Federation (Deutscher Basketball Bund – DBB), which ended last year.

“They have now assigned someone to come and observe on what never worked between the two organisations and how we can improve on their support in going forward,” he said.

He added that the BBW would be engaging with the NBF from the grassroots level, which is the most important part of any sport development programme.

Govts seek data

Govts seek dataGovts seek data Request reach all-time high Google has announced that requests by government for data have reached a record high in six months with the US topping the list. Google said Wednesday that data requests from governments around the world hit a record high in the six months ending in June, extending a steady rise.

The 44 943 requests amounted to a 10% increase from the prior six-month period and a fourth consecutive increase, Google said in its “transparency report.”

The official requests related to 76 713 user accounts in the latest period, down from 81 311 in the second half of 2015.

Google provided at least some data in response to 64% of the requests in 2016, unchanged from the previous reporting period.

The number of requests to Google has been generally rising since it began releasing transparency data in 2011.

The online giant, like other tech firms, maintains that it protects user privacy while cooperating with lawful requests from police and other official agencies.

“As we have noted in the past, when we receive a request for user information, we review it carefully and only provide information within the scope and authority of the request,” Google law enforcement director Richard Salgado said in a blog post.

“Before producing data in response to a government request, we make sure it strictly follows the law, for example to compel us to disclose content in criminal cases we require the government use a search warrant, and that it complies with Google''s strict policies (to prevent overreach that can compromise users'' privacy).”

In the latest report, the United States had the largest number of requests at 14 169, with data supplied in 79% of those cases.

Germany was second with 8 788 requests, followed by France (4 300), India (3 452) and Britain (3 302).

The company said it received its first-ever requests from Algeria, Belarus, the Cayman Islands, El Salvador, Fiji and Saudi Arabia in 2016. Google did not agree to provide data in any of those requests, according to the report.

Oz permits cannabis

Oz permits cannabisOz permits cannabis Access to medicinal cannabis through GPs now allowed in Queensland, Australia Australia''s Queensland state government has passed new legislation that will allow sick patients of any age to gain access to medicinal cannabis legally from their GPs. Queensland State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said in a statement that the Public Health (Medicinal Cannabis) Bill 2016 was passed at its state parliament on Wednesday night after gaining unanimous support from the opposition and cross benchers.

“This legislation is a milestone for those who have campaigned tirelessly for changes that will allow access to medicinal cannabis,” the premier said in a statement.

These new legislation is aimed at giving certain specialists such as oncologists, paediatric neurologists and palliative care specialists the right to prescribe medicinal cannabis from March next year.

Other doctors, including GPs, would be able to apply to Queensland Health for permission to prescribe the drug for patients with certain conditions.

Queensland State Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick said the new law would allow greater use of medicinal cannabis products for some patients.

“This groundbreaking reform is a game changer for seriously ill patients who often feel compelled to seek out illicit cannabis treatment options,” he said.

“We understand the importance of providing holistic care to patients and that''s why we have made this treatment available legally.”

The new law will ensure that the use of medicinal cannabis will be integrated into patient treatment plans and overseen by a medical practitioner, to ensure the right monitoring and controls are in place.

“Before they can be prescribed, medicinal cannabis products will still need to be approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration,” Dick said.

In 2015, Queensland became the first state in Australia to permit patient access to medicinal cannabis products through amendments to the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996.

Meanwhile, the use of cannabis without the appropriate approvals will continue to be illegal in Queensland.

Some of the benefits of cannabis oil include:

Anxiety and stress: One of the most popular and well known uses of cannabis essential oil is as a relief for stress and anxiety.

Sleep issues: For people who suffer from insomnia, constant anxiety during the nighttime hours, or simply struggle to get a sound, restful night of undisturbed sleep, cannabis essential oil works like a charm.

Pain Reliever: Cannabis essential oil works as a great pain reliever, and is regularly suggested for people with inflammation, chronic pain, and even emergency pain relief. There is a very good reason why people who suffer from cancer often turn to cannabis-related options, including cannabis essential oil, when the pain of chemotherapy or the disease itself becomes unbearable.

Cancer prevention: Although there is still some controversy over this, and a great deal of research still ongoing, early reports have shown that the active ingredients in cannabis essential oil can have preventative effects on cancer, and can also cause reduction in tumour size, thereby making it easier to effectively beat cancer for those patients already suffering from that tragic disease.

Heart health: The volatile oils in cannabis essential oil can also help to improve heart health by balancing out the negative oils in your system. It can stimulate antioxidant processes as well, scraping off excess cholesterol and maximising the health of your cardiovascular system.

Glaucoma: In terms of eye health, cannabis and cannabis essential oil have been linked to a reduction in glaucoma and a prevention of macular degeneration.

Headaches and migraines: Topically applying some cannabis essential oil at the temples or the spot of intensity for a migraine or headache can be an effective way to get relief.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health DayWorld Mental Health Day If you are in the mental health profession or are suffering from mental illness then 10 October is probably a very special day for you. It has been marked by the World Health Organisation as World Mental Health Day in order to create awareness around mental health and wellness, as well as decrease stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illnesses and disorders. Around this time of the year I cannot help but to feel nostalgic about my personal journey as a graduate of clinical psychology and as I now commence my journey toward being registered as a psychological counsellor. I find myself reminiscing about every time someone told me what a good listener I was, or how I had helped them overcome some or other problematic life issue, and it really warms my heart to know that I have been well-aligned to what I have mostly believed to be my calling in life; to be a healer and a helper. It is an honour and a privilege to be granted the opportunity to help others reach their full potential by empowering them to tap into their own personal power and strengths with the aspiration of living their best life. This year has been particularly challenging for me because up until now I hadn''t managed to secure an internship in my field without which I wouldn''t be able to start practising. During the time of dormancy after graduation I felt the inevitable feelings of panic, fear and sense of hopelessness that I imagine all graduates face upon obtaining a degree. There is no bigger sense of disappointment than dedicating four years in a specific discipline only to be rendered unemployed and considered inexperienced even after years of practicals and skill-sharpening. It was during this time that I realised just how the work we do and our access to employment affects our mental health. The weeks and months that would pass by often had me playing out projections of the future in which I would remain unemployed and inexperienced for the rest of my career in terms of psychology. Naturally, when I heard people complain about Mondays or having to work up until five ''o clock it angered me because I can''t understand how and why one would have such a negative attitude towards the privilege of being granted the opportunity to work or to earn a living. I''ve come to realise that employment is something that many people take for granted and waste too many precious hours complaining about whilst there are others desperately searching for employment nationwide. I understand that some people may find themselves in a work situation whereby they are unhappy and dissatisfied but I also believe that we control our own destiny. My advice is to create an employment opportunity for yourself whilst waiting to be blessed with formal employment or to secure another job before leaving your current job, instead of constantly complaining about it and making yourself miserable in the process.

Facebook continues tax struggle

Facebook continues tax struggleFacebook continues tax struggle Facebook is carrying on its fight with the US Internal Revenue Service over taxes relating to its transfer of global operations to Ireland in 2010 even as the social media giant pledged cooperation with the government''s investigation.

The company is prepared to comply with seven “extraordinarily broad summonses” demanding information “about virtually every aspect of Facebook''s core business”, but needs more time to do so, it said in a filing on Tuesday in San Francisco federal court.

The dispute stems from IRS''s claims that Facebook''s tax adviser Ernst & Young undervalued the company''s property as it was transferred to Facebook Ireland Holdings by evaluating pieces of the online platform separately. Facebook assigned a base value to the transferred assets in 2010 of $5.8 billion, not including intellectual property, while the IRS estimate is closer to $13.9 billion, according to a filing Tuesday in the Washington-based US Tax Court.

Facebook has estimated the value of its future liabilities in the case at $3 billion to $5 billion.

Facebook denied that it failed to respond to US summonses involving a tax bill springing from its move of global operations to Ireland in 2010.

“During the audit, Facebook produced thousands of pages of documents in response to more than 200 IRS requests, voluntarily extended the statute of limitation five times, and made employees available for interviews,” the company said in a filing in San Francisco.

IRS representatives in Washington and San Diego weren''t immediately available for comment on Facebook''s filings.

The case is US vs Facebook, 16-cv-03777, US District Court, Northern District of California (San Francisco).

EU draws fire for allowing 'overfishing' of Baltic cod

EU draws fire for allowing 'overfishing' of Baltic codEU draws fire for allowing 'overfishing' of Baltic cod European Union (EU) ministers have agreed to cuts in Baltic cod catch quotas that fall well short of calls by scientists worried about the stock''s eventual collapse.

The fisheries ministers agreed to reduce catches of western Baltic cod by 56%, despite calls by scientists for a 90% cut they say is needed to sustain stocks in Danish and German waters.

EU fisheries commissioner Karmenu Vellu said the commission, the bloc''s executive, had proposed a reduction of 88% “to bring back the stock to sustainability as soon as possible,” but had to accept a compromise to reach a deal among all member states.

Listening to the potential impacts on the different fishing fleets, Vellu said: “I have accepted a lower reduction that is still well above the lower limit of the scientific advice.”

Vellu said the quotas would be accompanied by other measures to “protect this vulnerable species,” including limiting recreational fishing to catches of five cod per day per person and even stricter limits of three per day during the spawning season.

But conservation groups like Oceana were still concerned.

“Today''s agreement seems to cover the bare minimum for legal requirements but lacks ambition to restore the heavily overfished Western Baltic cod back to healthy levels,” Oceana''s Europe director Lasse Gustavsson said in a statement.

“By deciding to continue overfishing, ministers not only risk environmental collapse but also ignore the potential growth for all fishing communities along the Baltic coast that depend on this iconic fish,” the director said.

Tough quotas have encouraged a rebound in badly-depleted cod fisheries in the North Sea and Canada.

Africa priority for German G20 presidency

Africa priority for German G20 presidencyAfrica priority for German G20 presidency Merkel suggests migrant deal with Africa The German leader was in Africa this week, seeking investment opportunities to help drive growth. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, on a trip to Ethiopia, said she would make Africa a priority for Germany''s G20 presidency next year and outlined plans for a conference in Berlin.

The German leader is on the last leg of a three-day trip which has also included stops in Mali and Niger. She is seeking investment opportunities which she hopes will help drive economic growth and curb future migration to Europe.

Earlier Merkel told Ethiopia to open up its politics and ensure police do not use heavy-handed tactics against protesters, after more than a year of unrest that rights groups say has led to about 500 deaths.

Then, in a speech to the African Union, Merkel said Berlin would host a high-profile conference on Africa in mid-2017.

“We want to strengthen private investment to create sustainable growth and jobs,” Merkel said, adding it was important to expand infrastructure on the continent and improve professional training.

Participants in the conference would include industry representatives and international organisations, she said, urging companies to engage in Africa.

“There are already many German companies active in Africa but there could be more,” she said, adding that sometimes other countries offered deals for infrastructure projects that were linked to financial packages.

Germany would have to change if German firms wanted to be successful, she said, adding that in some other countries the state and economy were more closely linked.

Chinese firms, especially, have become active in some African countries in the last few years, often also offering attractive financing deals.

Merkel has described Africa, with its population of 1.2 billion people, as central to the migration issue and wants the EU to agree a migrant deal with North African countries.

She also said that African states had to increase their efforts in fighting Islamist militants and illegal migration, adding they needed to introduce democratic and economic reforms to undermine terrorist activity.

Merkel also urged the African Union to get involved in trying to solve the conflict in Libya.

“I am expressly in favour of the African Union bringing its influence to bear to help solve the conflict,” Merkel said in her speech to the African Union, adding Libya had become a “sad example” of the consequences of state structures collapsing.

Aunty NangyAunty Nangy Will I have a baby?

Auntie Nangy

I am a 26-year-old woman. I was operated because of an ectopic pregnancy. My question is can I have a baby again in my life. I am confused.

I am not a medical doctor and my answer will be very general and it may not be of much help to you. I also do not understand why the doctor who did the operation did not explain to you the after-effects of the operation that he/she did on you. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilised egg attaches itself in the fallopian tube and not inside the uterus. Almost all ectopic pregnancies occur in the fallopian tube and are thus sometimes called tubal pregnancies. The fertilised egg cannot develop properly and it must be treated. When the fallopian tube ruptures it will be removed. A woman has two tubes so I understand that you can still have a baby but if both are removed then you cannot have babies.

My teenage friend sleeps around

Auntie Nangy

I have a 15-year-old best friend that loves boys and sleeps with them. I always advised her not to but, she thinks I am jealous. This week she told me that she slept with four guys during the weekend. What is the best advice to tell her?

I feel sad that you have a best friend who sleeps around with boys and does not respect the advice that you give her as a best friend. Good friendship to me is friendship that respects good advice coming from a friend among other things. She probably thinks that she has the sweetest cookie in town but soon and very soon she will live to regret her prostitution. It is very sad that at that tender age she is crazy about sex and is sleeping around like a bitch on heat that services the entire neighbourhood when it is on heat. Please tell your friend to come to her senses and go for spiritual cleansing because I think she has sex demons and she needs divine intervention. Not only is she a dishonest girl but she is a first-class health hazard considering that she can get sexually transmitted infections including Aids! I doubt if she is even using protection and these are the people who are a health hazard to other citizens. Also tell her about the risk of becoming a victim of sex and gender-based violence because one day she will be punished for promiscuity. Please stay out of it and I hope you will also realise that a friend who behaves like this is not a good friend.

I don’t want to disappoint my friends

Auntie Nangy

I am a 16-year-old boy who has a talent of singing but wants to concentrate on my school work. I am a member of a group of three and I don’t know how to tell the other members about my preference to my school work because I don’t want to disappoint them. Please help me or give me advice.

My advice to you is to do what you think is more important to you and which your school work is. Don’t be shy to be frank. Your education is more important to you and I encourage you score that goal. If you convince them to see your view point, I am sure they will understand your preferences.

In love with a 14-year-old

Auntie Nangy

I am a 25-year-old guy and I am dating a 14-year-girl. She used to tell me that she loves me. I am afraid of this and I don’t know what I can do to her. Please help me with this.

I am very disappointed that you are dating an underage teenager. You are actually committing a criminal offence and will be arrested for getting involved in a romantic relationship with a 14-year-old. I advise you not to touch or do anything with that child.

I have three boyfriends

Auntie Nangy

I am from Eenhana. I have three boyfriends. What can I do? Please help me.

I am not sure whether you mean three male friends or three sexual men that you are in a romantic relationship with. If you mean you are cheating three men then make your mind and decide who want to keep before it backfires on you. You are putting your life in danger. Every day we read about jealous men killing women because they suspected that the woman was cheating. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

My period lasted 18 days

Auntie Nangy

I am 18 years old and I have a problem with my periods. Last month I started on the 9th until the 27th. Is that normal? Auntie, please help me.

I think you need to see a doctor because the number of days that you were bleeding is way too long for a normal period. You may be having other medical problems so I suggest that you see a doctor as soon as possible.

He has never studied drama/arts but believes he was into this. “I am newcomer to world of theatrics, highly driven by my enthusiasm in performing arts. Creative writing has always been my thing: I enjoy fictional prose, both reading and writing. I have an inexplicable appetite for reading,” he expresses. He’s currently reading a novel called ‘Piggy Boy’s Blues’ by South African writer, Nakhane Toure.

Donald describes himself as a liberal thinker who believes in evolution. Growing up he always wanted to be an actor and he sought for acting opportunities, which unfortunately are very limited in our country. Due to the lack of acting possibilities, he stumbled upon Theatre Zone, which gave him more than he expected. “At 21, Twisted is my first theatre production and definitely not the last. I write on a daily basis, even if it is just one line per day! I am looking forward to writing and directing more theatre plays, especially for schools in remote areas. I feel like small towns around the country are deprived of this great form of art. There are great performers in those areas that are not given a chance to shine,” he tells tjil.

Donald admits that regardless of how the theatre world is, one still needs guidance and mentorship to be able to thrive. “Actor, director and writer Blessing Mbonambi is my inspiration. His enthusiasm for theatre gives me so much more motivation and will to do theatre. I have seen a couple of his productions and can strongly relate to his approach in theatre. He is currently my mentor in Twisted. Sometimes when the directing process gets nerve-wracking, Blessing shows me the fun side of it,” said Donald.

Donald’s Twisted production challenges the political correctness in unfit households through an accumulation of events and 60% of this comes from a personal experience and things he has seen. This family drama tells the story of a woman, Louisa who loses her will to be a mother. In a twisted turn of events, Melissa, a maid who works for a family gave up a lot for her survival. After almost 18 years the lies, deception and betrayal unravel. On the other hand, the son of the family, Robby is faced with sexuality issues while his parents, Tobby and Louisa are faced with their marital problems. The audience can look forward to light comedy and on a serious note, some hard-hitting words to ponder with.

Twisted is family play and is for everybody. “I encourage people who come from or who have seen dysfunctional households to come watch,” he concluded. The act will be premiering on 19 October with a second show on 20 October at NTN Backstage. Tickets are as follows: Adults: N$50, students N$25, senior citizens: N$30. Tickets are available at Computicket and NTN Box Office.

Silence is not always golden

Silence is not always goldenSilence is not always golden Hey! Who are your friends and what are you willing to do for them just to remain that!? It happens that I got super-hot story; if you''d like some then this will really awaken the spirits within you. It turns out that a certain local artist, let us call him Nahas for the purpose of this column was approached by his musician friend to write a chorus for one of his songs. Nahas being a music lover and cool friend did just that. The chorus added so much meaning and life to the whole song that the artist friend apparentlydecided to include the song on the album he was busy working on.

Nahas says the artist told him to just ''hold on'' as he would be notified when studio and recording time came. Months passed with no word for Nahas from his friend regarding the song until he actually just gave up, ndje.

As it turns out, it was quite shocking for Nahas, to one day, as he was sitting chilling in a bar to in fact hear the song that he and his friend had played around with not so long ago. Poor Nahas nearly fell of his chair when he heard his friend literally sing his part, his words… everything his except for the voice! Yooh banthong, what is going on here? As if that''s not worst of it, the artist friend did not give Nahas any credit whatsoever; he wasn''t mentioned on the cover nor was he accredited for the part he wrote.

Clearly, he was quite upset about the whole situation though but according to “credible sources” and the grapevine, but really does not want to talk about it or do anything regarding the situation. Normally, what the artist friend did is punishable by law hence it is regarded as a crime. Intellectual property infringement is when any original creation with rights is stolen. This includes pieces of art, music or creative writing. So Mr. Artist sir, people don''t go claiming that something is theirs when it''s as evident as it is in this case!

But Nahas being a good friend and since entertainment circles are also small, you can''t just go snitching on those around you, you will be cast out of social gatherings and all that. One would rather maar net sit and swallow the ndungu when your chorus is being sung by people in Warehouse and everybody thinking how great this artist is, anakam its you.

Moral of the story, there is absolutely nothing that can justify wrong actions, regardless of relationship you have. How many entertainers are being screwed over like this? Next time I will actually use real names so your fans know what type of person you are!

NPA’s review offer boosts the randNPA’s review offer boosts the rand The rand strengthened the most in more than two weeks after the head of South Africa National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said this week that he was willing to review the decision to charge Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan with fraud. BUSINESS REPORT

Gordhan saga:

South Africa’s currency jumped as much as 2.5% against the dollar, the most since September 27, and was 1.4% stronger at R14.1756 per dollar on Wednesday. The currency earlier weakened as much as 0.8%, falling for a second day after Gordhan said on Tuesday he had been summoned to appear in court.

Benchmark government bonds also reversed their losses, the yield falling six basis points to 8.88%.

“I am more than willing to review any matter if somebody applies to review that matter,” NPA head Shaun Abrahams told lawmakers in Cape Town yesterday.

“Minister Gordhan can submit representations to me and ask me to review the matter and I would certainly look into the matter.”

Abrahams announced on Tuesday that Gordhan would be charged with fraud relating to the early retirement of a former colleague at the tax agency.

Yesterday Treasury director-general Lungisa Fuzile said the Treasury was fielding calls from concerned investors.

Investors “are concerned and indeed some of the movements in the currency do reflect that”, Fuzile said in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

“Any noise or development of the kind we saw yesterday (Tuesday) would unnerve investors, but we hope that in time they will see through this and as things settle down the rand might regain its strength.”

While the news of the summons “does unsettle things a bit”, the Treasury remained resolute to present the medium-term budget policy statement on 26 October “as a team, led by Minister Gordhan and Deputy Minister Mcebisi Jonas”, Fuzile said.

The budget will be closely watched by rating companies as South Africa risks losing its investment grade credit rating.

No one from the rating companies had contacted him since the news of Gordhan’s summons, Fuzile said.

S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings, both to consider their credit assessments in December, kept their ratings at one level above junk in June, and S&P kept its outlook at negative. The companies said the government should take decisive steps to bolster growth, quell policy uncertainty and end political turmoil.

Moody’s Investors Service is scheduled to review its rating, which is at two levels above junk, on November 25.

The Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) said yesterday that it noted “with concern the latest developments involving Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan”.

YouTube buys matchmaker for videos, sponsorsYouTube buys matchmaker for videos, sponsors Google-owned YouTube on Tuesday announced it has bought FameBit, a marketplace where video-makers can connect with brands interested in sponsoring their creations.

YouTube did not disclose financial terms of the deal to buy FameBit, which it described as a technology platform that helps creators and brands make matches leading to sponsorships or paid promotions.

“We believe that Google''s relationship with brands and YouTube''s partnerships with creators, combined with FameBit''s technology and expertise, will help increase the number of branded content opportunities available,” YouTube product management vice president Ariel Bardin said in an online post. The end goal is to bring more revenue to the community of online video creators that are central to YouTube.

Nine years ago YouTube launched a “partner programme” designed to help video creators earn advertising money and gain viewers. In the past year, the top 100 advertisers have increased the amount spent on YouTube video ads by 50 percent, according to Bardin. “As we look to the future, we want even more creators and brands to come together and realise the benefits of these creative collaborations,” Bardin said. Southern California-based FameBit will continue as a standalone operation for now, co-founders David Kierzkowski and Agnes Kozera said in a message posted on its website. “With Google''s relationship with brands large and small, and YouTube''s partnership with creators around the globe, we hope to connect even more brands to creators, engage more audiences, and make brand marketing more creative and authentic than ever,” the FameBit co-founders said.

SWAiTEX officially openedSWAiTEX officially opened Bigger and better business expo The annual SWAiTEX business expo was officially opened yesterday, marking the start of the three-day event at Swakopmund.

The minister of industrialisation, trade and SME development, Immanuel Ngatjizeko, yesterday officially opened the Swakopmund International Trade Expo (SWAiTEX) at The Dome, Swakopmund Indoor Sport Centre.

According to the executive chairman of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Paul Ndjambula, the expo was created to provide an opportunity for business and community stakeholders to showcase their products and services to the public, while at the same time forging networks and business lineages for economic growth.

“From its very humble beginnings in a tent at the Swakopmund municipality parking lot in 2013, SWAiTEX has become a permanent fixture on the Erongo Region events calendar and attracts many visitors and investors,” he said.

The expo, which is now in its fourth year, has fewer exhibitors than originally planned this year because of the current low economic situation in Namibia. Ndjambula however said exhibitors taking part this year will get improved service and value for money.

“Government and business sector support is critical for our success. The SWAiTEX exhibitors represent international, national and proudly local Swakopmund businesses,” he said. Ngatjizeko congratulated the organisers of the expo on a job well done and encouraged investors to join their efforts in making the Erongo Region a trade hub.

“Erongo is a very important location for trade in Africa. Last year we had a trade deficit of N$39 billion, hence we need to grow our own local industries and invest in local businesses to grow our trade industry and we need to go beyond just exporting raw minerals,” said the chief executive officer of the NCCI, Tarah Shaanika.

According to him the government has done a lot to create a free market in the SADC region and that it is now up to private business owners and stakeholders to work together to create a larger platform to showcase local businesses and products to the international market.

“We want the world to see that Africa is rising.

Our economies are growing fast and our population is growing fast. The future really is in Africa,” he said.

SWAiTEX will be running until 15 October and is open to all members of the public.

Kraatz takes on young boilermakers, weldersKraatz takes on young boilermakers, welders Engineering firm Kraatz Marine recently added nine more students from the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) to its internship programme.

The students bring to 60 the number of participants in the programme since its establishment five years ago, receiving training in boilermaking, welding, fitting and turning.

“This internship programme forms part of our contribution to bring the O&L Group motto ''Creating a Future, Enhancing Life'' to life,” Kraatz Marine human resources manager Roberto January said.

“It is of utmost importance, and we are keen on developing young Namibians and affording them the opportunity to gain practical experience to better prepare them for the job market and at the same time contributing to our country''s development,” January said.

The job attachment lets the students gain practical experience under mentorship from experienced craftsmen in the industrial, marine and offshore industries.

“We offer job attachment not only to students in their third levels but we give opportunity to level one students as well,” January said.

“The level three students stay with the company for a total of 12 months, which is required by NIMT to qualify or trade as level four.”

The company will continue to run its internship programme for as long as it is able, he said, considering it a contribution to addressing Namibia''s identified skills shortage.
